Research Area
Arecoline hydrobromide (CAS 300-08-3), the hydrobromide salt of an alkaloid extracted from the seeds of the betel nut palm (Areca catechu), is a white to off-white crystalline powder. It acts as a cholinergic receptor agonist with parasympathomimetic effects and is clinically used primarily as an anthelmintic (e.g., against tapeworms) and in the treatment of glaucoma. Additionally, it has been investigated for applications such as an antiarrhythmic agent and a pre-exercise supplement.
